Doing Good In Your Backyard: CRAG Vermont

Climb More, Climb Better: The Power of Consistency in Climbing

If you've been following our Doing Good in Your Backyard series, you know we love spotlighting the organizations that make climbing possible and accessible. This time around, we are talking about Crag-VT, an organization 100% built and run by climbers, for climbers.

About Crag-VT

CRAG-VT was started in 2003, when the Lower West climbing area was donated to the now known CRAG-VT. Since then, this nonprofit organization has secured sustainable access to a total of 18+ cliffs with over 1,000+ routes established in areas including:

  • Bolton Quarry

  • 82 Crag

  • Upper West

  • Carcass Crag

  • Bolton Dome

  • And many more!

Their efforts ensure routes are maintained, trails are cared for, parking areas are built and improved, and the surrounding wildlife and ecosystems are protected.

Building Community

Aside from keeping awesome crags accessible, CRAG-VT is all about building a welcoming climbing community for all. If you're looking to join an awesome group of climbers, access cool events, and become part of the community, consider signing up for their membership. Through memberships, they are able to fund conservation efforts, expand climbing access, and fund land purchasing and maintenance. Members can also enjoy great perks like monthly outdoor meetups, local gym discounts, gear discounts, and reduced rates for clinics and classes. The meetups rotate through different crags monthly and are a great opportunity to meet other local climbers, share beta with new friends, and send hard together.

Getting Involved

If you are looking to give back to the climbing community, consider joining one of the Crag-VT volunteer days, where you can help maintain trails and clean up climbing areas. To learn more and get involved, visit their page and explore all the ways you can get involved.

CRAG-VT also works hard to keep the community updated with real-time information on closures, parking, and access details through their website—all the beta you need to plan your climbing day!

Pinch Blocks: Don't let pinch strength stop you from sending! Use it while hanging, lifting, and even for one arm hangs; featuring various widths for pinching, a 20 mm edge, and a jug.

The Rock-Stah Hangboard

The Rock-Stah: Our handcrafted version of a traditional hangboard, with curving crimp rails to help alleviate unnecessary strain on your pulleys. Because ain’t no one got time for a finger injury…

The Rocket Wall Climbing Wall

The Rocket Wall: Available in 6’ and 8’ widths, it’s been tough for us to keep up with the demand for this innovative home climbing wall solution. Slightly overhanging, the Rocket Wall is big enough to set routes on, or to build a systems board.
